Slightly Revamped Tyranid Color Schemes I & II

green vs brown

I made some minor adjustments to each of the color schemes.  Archetype I (brown shell) got some Bubonic Brown highlights to accent its other wise bland look and feel.  Archetype II (green shell) got some Skull White dry brushing on the fleshy bitz and some more Devlan Mud shading on the shell.  I believe the addition of more Devlan Mud wash to the green shell would resolve any issues of it being too bright on larger models.  All hail the Devlan Mud.

Once the new codex hits I’m going to start my personal Iron Painter challenge so I think this is as far as I’ll take either scheme.  Now all I have to do is make a decision which one I like best.

Green all the way dude, looks nice and natural with enough contrast to catch the eye:)
on bigger critters it might need an additional color though.. otherwise they might get bland

I love Devlan mud too. I don't know what i did without it. well I do. My models looked worse thats all. Anyway. I do really like the revamped green. I think either scheme would do well. i had a look at some models that were painted in almost exactly that red scheme, on both small and large models it looked great. Not BRILLFANTgoldendaemonwinning!TASTIC but great none the less. I think the green would look good too but there is something about that red one that just looks right to me and something about that green one that looks slightly wrong. Anyway, they both look better for the revamp!

I like the brown one. Though my suggestion is to use the most simple colour scheme. My Tyranids took me a long time to paint mainly because I started at the time there wasn't any washes and I did a very complicated colour scheme.

I say go with green, allthough the brown one looks good the flesh and shell are to similar in colour and it just looks a bit bland. The one with the green shell however has a high ammount of contrast and attracts your attention and for me i feel it looks better.

Both are nice looking, so toss a coin or ask your wife/daughter (if any ;-)!

I'm kind of leaning toward green myself right now, but I know in a few moments I know I'll be leaning toward the brown. Oh... decisions, decisions.

I'm still going with the green! You should start a poll :)

I'm saying green, but the bigger guys might need a splash of a third colour to break them up a bit.
