Realm of Battle Gameboard - Stage One

It's a new year and I'm kicking it off by getting things going on my Realm of Battle Gameboard. In this stage I first sprayed the rocky areas and skull pits using Chaos Black spray primer. Using the brown paint and the two inch brush from the GW Scenery Painting Pack I then painted all of the flat areas and stippled the paint around the rocky outcrops and skull pits. This stippling effect will help in adding depth around the rocks and pits so it's not just a straight border of colour. In this stage it's very important that I get a healthy amount of paint onto the gameboard as there's a good deal of detail that needs covered, plus a good base coat will help to hide any of the grey plastic that might try to sneak through thin areas of paint. In the next stage I'll be completing the rocks and skull pits so keep an eye out for Stage Two.

  1. A little late on this one, sorry. But what "brown paint" did you use? Why not just spray the entire thing brown instead of a brush?

  2. The 'brown paint' is from the Citadel Scenery Painting Pack.

I would have liked to have sprayed it, but I live in an apartment so it was easier to do it with a brush rather than haul the thing to an empty field to spray it. In all honesty I don't have a good answer to your question, it's just how it worked out.

  3. Ah ok that makes sense.

I was thinking about bringing the table up on our next podcast also and looking for examples people have done

I too also live in an apartment but we have this unloading garage downstairs I may use. I am thinking of getting this table. Do you have any regrets? Still use it a lot?

  4. I absolutely love it and have no regrets. It gets used a fair amount as I like to play in my apartment rather than local stores. At home I don't have to deal with any of the typical game store annoyances, plus I can have a beer while I play.

My advice to you and your listeners... Take your time to figure out your scheme, then try to envision the final product and stage out how you want to accomplish it. It's a rather large and time consuming project, so have a plan. The last thing you'd want is to be dissatisfied with it once all is said and done.

  5. Ok sounds great. I think I want to do a rustic Mars type deal, but I need to make sure it is not over the top. The majority of my IG bases are brown with light reddish brown rocks on them, so a very rocky layout.

At any rate I will check this out and see how it goes
